Need help finding the right parts for my '45 td-6.
I was told that an MD uses the same motor parts, so off to the parts store I go, get a head gasket kit for an MD, get one in record time, should have been my 1st. clue something was wrong. The gaskets are differant than on mine. Next I go to web and order cap, rotor, and points, to easy, 2nd. clue. Obviously the wrong parts, but I have an H-4 mag and ordered for the same, what gives? Is there that big of a differance between MD and TD, or is there a specific MD I should be looking at? With a serial # on the motor of 2062, I'm pretty sure it's a 248 model, but I've been wrong before.
What am I not doing right? Is it time to try local IH dealer? Tyring to keep the cost down but...
Thanks, Paul

the MD & TD have the same blocks. depending on the bore they could be a 264 or 240 cubic inch. the heads are the same. the H 4 mag is the same one used on the H through the M & Md 9 series also. i just rebuilt my TD -6 and i used all the parts from a MD, gaskets and all.you need to give the serial # off the side of your engine block to a dealer to get the right parts. the rod and main bearings are quite expensive.. cost me 700 for the bearings. try Joe's farmall parts .com for the mag parts. again give him the serial # on the mag to get correct parts. batescorp.com and carterand greenwalt.com are other places that can get alot of the parts for older IH engines.

Thanks Clark for all the info, I hope to have better success in the future. I think its the expendable parts that will be hard to find. Did you rebuild any of your idlers or track rollers? The oil comes out about as fast as I pump it in on mine. Any ideas on parts for those? I was thinking trying to cross match IH part numbers with something out of the parts store.
Thanks, Paul

didnt rebuild the idlers, i needed to redo 1 but i dont have a press so i found a good idler in the junkyard. the rollers you can buy used or new . that would be cheeper than fixin them ( if you can get the parts) i did rebuild the finaldrives and clutches. lucky it has all standard bearings in the machine.
