Hi all, I have a case 311b. Im leaking hyd. oil into the rear end. Its that or the rear end is making oil.. The level is going up in the back and my hyd. fluid is missing. Dont take alot to figure out something isnt right. Im guessing there is a bad o ring or somthing wrong with the cylinder in the tractor. How big of a job is this to fix ? I know some of you guys have seen/delt with this before. Can i get to this cylinder from under the seat or am i going to need to split the tractor. I have put this fix off long enough. I have 3 acres to plow with a set of 3 point mounted plows and the price of hyd. oil i dont want to leak a drop. Thanks in advance. Jake

It can leak in two spots. One is on the shaft seals betwwen the 2 sections and the other is the internal eagle lift cylinder. If you lift up the plow and shut off the tractor does the plow leak down? If it does it could be the piston seals leaking the oil. If it stays up it is not the piston seals but the shaft seals. If shaft seals you have to split. If they are the piston seals you can remove the lift cover and replace them. If they are just o-rings I would recomend you cut a larger groove and install a v-seal.

It will not hold a load or even the 3 point for that matter. When you say v-seal im not sure what that is. Would a local cylinder dealer have the o ring you speak of ? With my luck they will next to impossible to find. Thanks for the help. Jake

I have always found them at a Case dealership. I think for the 311 there is nothing there but round 0 rings. If you do not lift real heavy loads or use the tractor a lot, new 0 ring will last a good while. It is not a big deal to fix. Take the seat off and remove the cylinder You will need some type of hoist or someone to help you lift it out because it is a good chunk of iron to pull out. Once you have it out it does not take but about 5 minutes to put in a new 0 ring. You should be good to go for several more years.
