VAI Hydraulic Pressure - Low or High??

A guy on ebay is selling a "High Pressure" hydraulic pump from a VAI. I am not interested in buying it since my tractor already has one. My question is this - is the hydraulic pump on a VAI considered high pressure, or low pressure?? At approximately 700psi I am under the impression that it is low pressure and only good for operating the Eagle Hitch. I was considering building a log splitter to run off of the hydraulics, but determined that even with a 2" ram diameter, I would only get 1.3 tons of splitting power. Any ideas? Thanks

You can safely bump up the relief setting on the low-pressure system to 900 to 1000 psi according to Case. With a 6 in. cylinder that would give you about 14 tons at the wedge. With 10,000 psi on that 2" cyl. you'd get a bit over 15 tons which is why you never see a 2 in. cylinder on a log splitter. Guess you could run it with a porta-power pump, they're about 10,000 psi. Better pack a lunch though 'cause it's take all day to split a rick. :-)

I have a 46 VAI, with a profit trip bucket loader on it. It came w/ a vane pump, where the normal, engine mounted pump would go. It is a high preasure pump.I have since taken off the loader, as it didn't work anyways, and was going to hook it up to a splitter also.It should do much better than the low preasure pump,I would think.

The pump driven out of the front engine cover is what Case considered the low pressure system. It fed the Eagle hitch and possibly a remote.

The system that is considered high pressure is a self contained pump that was run off of the belt pulley. It is very low GPM and is good only for running the one way cylinder that operated the rock shaft. If you had the Case implements it works good for them but not much else.

Thanks Jerry, thats what I thought. I see another individual on ebay has the pump that runs out of the belt pulley window. This is the first I have seen that type. I am also aware of the self contained pumps that run off of the PTO. They may provide more PSI?? Thanks for the info.
