father in law recently passed away.up to me to get farm ready for sale.has wd-45 w/ no battery. is it a 6v or 12v system.any help appreciated

If it's the original 6v, it's also positive ground.

If it is a WD45 gas tractor and still has an OEM generator on it, it will be 6 volts. If a WD45 diesel, it will be 12 volts. If converted to an alternator charging system, it likely is 12 volts. I can't believe anyone would ever put a J C Whitney's 6 volt alternator on a tractor.

Hard to believe, but it does happen. Dad bought a 9N ford with a delco alternator on it years back. It didn't have a battery in it so we put a 12 volt one in. Wouldn't hold a charge. After some investigation we checked the alternator output and found it to be low. When we pulled it off to replace it we found a 6V stamped on it.
