I have always liked the John Deere model L and LA, as a woman I find them very appealing in that they are easier for me to handle and use around the house and garden myself. When Richard told me he was offered one I jumped at the chance to finally own one myself. When we arrived I was astonished to see trees growing up through the tractor and vines all around and entwined in the grill. We returned the next day armed with saws, knives, and an assortment of other tools, we cut, whacked, and pulled all those trees and vines away to find a surprisingly nice tractor underneath. The man we purchased it from said it had not been running in 8 years, but thankfully he had placed plastic over the motor and a can over the stack. We pushed it with another tractor onto our trailer and away we went. When we got it home Richard put some Marvel Mystery oil in and after quite a bit of tinkering, cleaning, a new set of plugs, cleaning the points, filling with gas, I was surprised to hear a putter and putter and then it started! It was so loud, I could not believe it kept on going, it was so exciting! Richard even drove it for awhile but it needed new tires as they were rotted. He is now sandblasting, priming and painting it piece by piece. I ordered the logos and battery box and had the pully restored. I only need a belly shield replaced, the rest of the tractor is original! I was surprised to learn how much value a pully adds to this tractor. Hopefully later this summer I will have a photo to share of a shiny, like new LA for everyone to see! Kate Smalley, CT, entered 2000-02-16 My Email Address: Not Displayed |
