Robert Branam wrote on Thursday, August 22, 2019 (PDT):Nowhere in your wiring diagram do you show the coil or solenoid. Do you take into account that the solenoid is contingent to the starter?
Chris wrote on Saturday, May 02, 2020 (PDT):Answers. There is no solenoid on many of these older tractors. This machine uses a manual switch triggered by a rod. With a later tractor with key switch, the momentary pole goes to the solenoid actuator and the main hot runs through the momentary part of the solenoid just as a junction. As to the coil, the original wiring diagram doesn't show one, apparently treating the distributor ignition as a black box including the coil. I probably should have drawn one in but I do mention it in the text. I put the ballast resistor in and that has to go to the coil. Possibly not the best choice of an old tractor wiring diagram to start with. AC didn't publish real schematics.

Stan Banks wrote on Sunday, June 11, 2023 (PDT):Regarding using a Ballast resistor to cut down the 12 volt to 6volt prior to the coil. Wouldn't it be simpler to install a 12 volt Coil? Perhaps I am missing something about what the distributor is doing w the power from the coil?
