The switch for the Magneto is a ground, on the original switch when you pulled it out itkilled the tractor or grounded the magneto so it could not fire and when you pushed it in it allowed the current to stay in the mag and thus the tractor would run, I don't know if that type of swith is still available or not but I'm sure a regular ignition switch could be made to do the same thing. As for the starter the hot cable comes from the battery to one post on the starter button and then another cable goes from there to the terminal on the starter.
