It sounds like the woodruff key is missing in the range shifter shaft and only the roll pin is controlling the shifting fork, But you don't need to remove the fuel tank to fix that. If it is a tripple range there is an adjusting pin on the clutch pack, BUT again that is under the tripple range shift cover also. Still need more details as to what the pin fastenes to what. Loren
