First a big THANKS to Dieseltech and mEl for the suggestions, a real big help. It's guys like these that make these forums work! I have a DB780 that would run for an hour or 5 minutes before sputtering and dying. Acted like air in the lines. I did everything, changed filters, replaced lift pump, had injector pump rebuilt, but nothing worked. I posted my problem on here and these guys made many good suggestions, all of which I tried, none of which worked. It was a suggestion from mEl that got me pointed in the right direction. He said he had seen the pick up tube in the tank crack allowing air in the line. With all other suggestions exhausted I drained the tank and with a mirror and flash light tried to figure out how to check for a cracked pick up tube. While looking in to the tube from the outside I noticed what looked like a little crud in the pick up tube where the external fuel line connects. I started digging around in the tube from the outside and got a little crud out. I then placed an air hose in the filler and sealed it the best I could with my hand. A little air pressure brought more crud up the line, some the same diameter as the line itself. After repeating this process a few times and removing a lot of crud a good full flow of air came through. Added some fuel to the tank and used the air pressure again to create a fuel flow. Little more crud and then a full flow of fuel came out. Put it all back together, primed her, and she fired up and ran great. All this time I thought it was getting air in the line and it was really starving for fuel. Expensive lesson, but thanks to this forum and the people dedicated to helping others my good ole DB780 is up and running again. Again Thanks for your help!
