go to a napa store and match up the filters ,loosen a couple ingector lines on the pump and crank the engine over ,some air bubles will come thru ,when mostly fuel ,titen them down , it should start.. as far as old fuel ,it could be 40 yrs old and still be good , but if you have doubts, draw it out and put in new fuel ,,make sure the sump drain on the tank will drain ,there is always water there ,almost every diesel i ever aquired , there was no indication that the prevous owner ever bothered to drain thewater trap ,had to take a wire and wiggle it thru there and get the crud out ... i drain the water trap once a weeek on my daily runners ,.
