The D series was an improvement over the WD45 with more hp, and with the power director, you get a low and high range in each of the speeds, forward and reverse, while maintaining the live pto/hudraulics of the WD. D17s are more popular, but I would stay away from the diesel version- too many problems with bad heads, and for the casual user, the gas is plenty adequate. Cost is likely $2000-4000 for a D17, depending on series (age). 15 is smaller and not a whole lot different in price. Most you'll find have wide front and snap-coupler, not 3pt hitch, but adapters can be purchased. Perhaps you can find a Series Four with factory 3pt.
