Ray, i worked for Fiat Allis in the early 1980's. I have an old undercarriage book. It list the 31B or FD40 dozer series as having bottom rollers of 280 mm diameter. Divided by 25.4 you get 11-3/8 diameter on the area where the chain rides. of course the lip on the edge probably sticks out another 3/4 inch all lthe way around. I am assuming you are talking about the "chain area" being 11-3/8 since the roller is 21 inches wide. That should be a big unit. I would post your question on www.ibdozing.com and tell them you think you have a 31 bottom roller and you will probably get some takers. the 31 was a 130,000 pound crawler with a 18 foot blade. The same roller fit a 41B which grossed out at 160,000 pound. Does the roller have the AC lettering or FA lettering, this will help give the age of the unit and maybe if it was built in Springfield Illinois or in Italy. Wish i could help more, but im going back 20 years.
