The alternator normally works well but when the tractor sits for a long time I need to jumper 12 volts to one of the spade terminals on the alt to get it to start charging. This is after reving up the tractor and still getting no charge. Since I have a key switch, can I just run a power wire from the switched side of the key to the spade terminal or will constant power (only when the key is on) hurt the alternator? Otherwise I could wire in a pushbutton to give a momentary supply of power if constant power is no good.
