My son had a truck that had that happen. He said the red light came on and then it started knocking and quit. He said it started back up and the oil light stayed on. He was able to drive it to a station and filled it back up with oil but the red light wouldn't stay off when it was full of oil. I told him he had one thing missing and that was a recording hooked up so when the light came on it would say (Hey Boy, you just screwed up)
