My wife trains horses- in an arena with nice soft footing- she says it slows them down, and also much softer landing. She's 62, probably will call it quits in a year or 2.

I know what you mean about the "schooling"- more than once I've stopped by where she was training- she's just about ready to call it a day (and we're goin' out to dinner), when ol' Dobbin does something untoward- Mrs. rolls her eyes, says "you might as well go on home- now I'll be another half hour, at least."

She used to work with the caretaker at the arena, who recently passed away- he had a sign in his barn- "Charlie's Charm School". By acclamation of all his relatives, the sign was given to my wife, and now occupies a place of honor in our barn. She also got the Tennessee Walker back that she had sold him 17 years ago. RIP, Charlie Richards.
