Same here, I take deposits, make it very clear you fail to show, deposit is gone. I write a hand written receipt, that states that. As well as states on when they will pickup by and pay remainder owed. It only take a few mins to write.
I hold nothing, without cash in hand. Sold a van last summer, one caller scheduled for 4pm,,, later another called and said 6pm. At 4:30pm, the 6pm caller showed, and bought the van. At 5:30pm the 4pm appointment showed up.... it was gone, so sad. You snooze you loose.
