Hi, I have a similar situation and I have found that talking to the neighbours is the best resource. My next door neighbour was about the same age as my Father, (I'm from a tiny rural village, where we have very deep roots and our family trees are like bamboo). So he is friendly and has lots of time to talk, and he farmed right beside my place his whole life. And talking to any locals who farm, or know the area real well is a fantastic resource. Not only will they have advice for you, but you will get to know the neighbours and who's who, and become part of the community yourself.
That said, I would recommend an old 60+hp tractor, Ford 5000, Massey Ferguson 1080, John Deere 2155, etc., and if you've got the means, a small 30ish hp tractor (MF 135, Ford 3000) for yard chores, garden etc.
A front end loader is indispensible, although sometimes a pain in the butt, but you need at least one.
I'm sure there will be lots of advice coming soon...

The gentleman no longer farmed because the entire area was developed with housing and light industry. I had stopped several times and knocked on the door but no one would answer. My curiosity was up and I wanted to contact the owner. I wanted to see what he planned to do with the combine.
