My grand dad bought the first JD 4010 sold at the local dealer. Since we are here in north eastern Iowa it had a serial number in the first hundred built. He traded it in in 1970 for a new JD 4020. The 4020 had more power but did not run as smooth as the 4010. Anyway I have been trying to track that 4010 down now for almost ten years. It has had four different owners since he traded it. One of these was a jockey that passed on twenty years ago.
I still have the original purchase order, warranty card and bill of sale. I tracked it to Northern Wisconsin last year. I had it narrowed down to two towns. The current owner called me this afternoon after seeing an ad I ran in the local paper there. He emailed me some pictures of it and a close up of the serial number. He has sold his farm is moving to town. So I now own that JD 4010. It has been off the farm now for 41 years.
I will try to get you some pictures when I get it home. I plan a complete tear down and rebuild. I did the 4020 five years ago. I went down to the casting and started out. Spent $16000 on parts and machining on that one. Made it better than new. Had the engine balanced and ported the head and intake. It runs like a Swiss watch now.
