BY now most of you know that I live and travel daily in the Mohawk Valley and Southern Adirondacks of Central NY. This area was the heart of the IndustrialRevolution, and the Erie Canal ( Mohawk River) was the link between the East coast cities and the early midwest manufacturing plants. The Mohawk valley was lined with factories and power plants, providing power to produce textiles, leather goods, steam engines, lumber, and hydro electric to power the eastern cities. The pics are of Little Falls NY, a mill town on the Erie Canal and several sites on the West Canada Creek, a major tributary to the Mowhawk Valley. The Hydro plant pic. is a 1,680.0KW low head facility on the WC. The single arch bridge, abandoned many years ago was preserved as seen in pic, 2yrs ago when the state road(St HWY 29) was rehabed to acomidate the construction of the comercial wind farms at the top of the hill from this creek crossing.(total of 41 units) The multiple arch bridge in Newport speaks for it's self in construction and eye apeal. (pics both downstream and up) The concrete buildings built into the ledge were coal and water reloading facilities for the magnificant steam engines that transported goods from east to west and vise versa.( located just east of Little Falls) Hope you enjoyed my daily trip into history The Acg.
