All those splitters you see have 2 stage pumps. Thats how you can run one with 5 hp. With no load, the pump puts out 11 gpm for fast cycle times. When a good load is put on it, it shifts to a lower gpm. like 1.5 to 3 and splits the wood. As soon as the load is gone, the pump goes back to 11 gpm. About 130.00 at Surplus Center.
