It's fixed! And now for the explanation. I guess I wasn't quite truthful when I said I hadn't messed with anything else because I put a new belt on the hydro at the same time. And after studying it for a bit it just seemed like the thing wanted to run but just couldn't. So I peeked underneath and the spring loaded idler pulley was stuck in a loose position. I gave it a whack with a hammer to loosen it up and instantly the hydro was running full steam. So I guess I have to hang my head down a little bit and admit that I'm my own enemy. You know what they always say. Check the simple stuff first! Thanks for the advice anyway though. I'll know better next time.
