Do yourself a favor and do it with the 18" bucket. One foot buckets are too narrow to get a fair sized rock into , and if the dirt is wet or it is sticky clay ,it will not dump out. An 18 or 2 ft ditch is much easier to fill and will pack better than a narrow one,seems like a 12" ditch will settle for ever.
