Last dealer I worked at sold them. They claimed that they designed the skid steer with JD and then could not get the marketing agreement worked out. There must be some truth to it as several of the employees at the Dubuque plant claim they cut up several green and yellow one for scrap.
As for your 601 it is the littler one we stocked. It has a SAE rated capacity of 1300 lbs. I like the 1760 more as it seemed to be balanced better. New the 1760 was only a few thousand dollars more and had a SAE rating of 1700 lbs.
