While you didn't say, if direct bury, and run full load, you will have about 2.6% drop (240-6= 234V). 2% is better but I see no reason for it not to work. Might see a flicker in the lights if you hit it hard (like a big compressor kicking in). Most of the time you will not be using anywhere near the full 50amp.
Here is the link to calculate the drop if you think you want to use conduit (I would).
