That dog is the twin of a female shepherd we have- but Willie is getting so stove up, she just rides the pillow by the stove most of the time.
When I had cattle, the neighbor's shepherd and blue heeler hung around my cattle all the time. Cows just accepted them into the herd- dogs stood guard over the calves, chased off coyotes at night, seemed to hang around all the time. Cows would run my dog off, but not those two. Never did figure it out, but it seemed to work.
The old neighbor, from whom we had bought the property, had told us if the dogs bothered my cattle "just shoot 'em". He noticed they were hanging around all the time, and asked me if they were bothering the cattle- told him what was going on, and that was one of the few times I saw him smile.
