I've been reading through these, and finally had to add my two cents. My grandmother does it only with a freshly cut willow "Y" branch. She showed me how the branch almost pulls out of her hands when crossing the septic tiles in her back yard. I tried it without success. Then we held hands and both had a hand on the willow. My knuckles went white trying to keep that branch in my hand, and my 85 year old grandmother wasn't muscling me around. I've done it with copper wire, and the biggest reaction from the wires were the same place my grandmother and the well driller marked at our property. The well driller did a well up the road at 48ft, but told us to expect much deeper. Ended up getting poor flows at 71ft and 123ft, but good water at 190ft. Not a clue how it all is explained though.
