That's pretty common. At GM, if you are leaving for another auto related company, you are escorted out of the plant immediately. Your supervisor and security would go thru your desk, and Fedex it to your home. No coffee and cake for the "traitors". Some mid management types resigned "effective immediately", to get around this. Always to pursue "other opportunities".
