I appreciate your perspective Wardner, and to a certain extent I agree, it would be nice to really do the job right, and would also be nice to have a new building. But, the old roof that was only attached by toenails into the window frames, had held on fine for the last century or so. I think anything I do will be an improvement. This particular building happens to be on my Mom's place in Central Oregon, not much of an earthquake risk here, and not much of one in MY part of California either I'm in the Very far northern end of the state. Most of the shaking happens farther south.
