22/250 is necked down 250/3000 Savage- old short cased cartridge meant for the Savage 99 action which had a little restriction on overall cartridge length, but strong enough for high pressure at the time loads. 303 and .300 Savage history similar- meant for the short action but could take pressure and pointed bullets compared to tube magazine competitors lever actions. .300 Savage is close to .308 case dimensions and ballistics-within 90%.
