Get your Chevrolet Colorado or GMC Canyon while they last. I wonder what else it will affect.
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - General Motors will temporarily stop production work at its Shreveport truck plant, a direct result of the earthquake and tsunami damage in Japan.
The plant, which makes the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon small trucks, will shut down its production line at the end of its Thursday shift. GM says employees will be laid off the week of March 21, and there's no time frame on restarting production.
While GM does not have a production plant in Japan, some of the parts needed to build the truck come from Japanese suppliers. GM would not say which parts they are lacking.
GM says the natural disaster has not affected any of its other North American plants.
