It's bad news if it gets into the blood stream. Very often fatal when that happens.
When I got it in my right foot/leg I was off my feet for a week while they treated it with a shot and pills. Three weeks later I ended up in the hospital for four days and then two weeks keeping my leg elevated at home. Six weeks later I got it again but caught it right away so that with an injection and oral antibiotics I was still laid up for another two weeks. It's been 15 months now since the last episode so I hope I'm over it for good.
