Grind off the zinc coating where you plan on welding, and then do not breathe any of the welding fumes. Drink Milk to absorb the zinc oxide toxins.
As to which rod to use, it depends upon the position of the work. A 6011 rod can make a vertical weld because of fast freeze of the molten metal. A 6013 rod is very difficult to use in any position other than flat. The red hot metal tends to run away like solder. The 6011 is deeper penetrating, and is better at cleaning up the dirty rusty metal surface.
Do this kind of welding only outdoors, and do not get the helmet directly in line with the smoke. The welding smoke is very poisonous.
