Has it got the preheat chamber and the old type (slow) glowplugs?
My German (D series) 100k around a minute on the old plugs but had an indicator to tell you when it was hot enough so you wouldn't run them too long. Switched over and rewired a little and have normal GP's in now and takes 5-7 seconds depending on the temperature.
Mine has a pull out starter button that was also the GP switch. You pulled it out halfway until the indicator in the dash started to glow (saying the GP's had heated enough) and pull it the rest of the way to engage the starter. Are the british models like that also?
