Poker rides have long been popular with horse folks. You pay an entry fee and ride a predetermined route, at your own speed. At each of 5 checkpoints you get a playing card. By the time you finish, you have 5 cards, and the best poker hand wins- usually half the pot, other half goes to the club.
Naturally, the guvment couldn't stand to see anybody having any fun, so declared it an illegal gambling game (at least in Washington), and that was that for poker rides.
