I've seen it a bunch of times over the years. Even though I get the "dumb old coot" look almost every time i still tell them. And then I remind them when the switch go's out. Some will listen after they have to replace the switch but never beforehand.
Same thing with eyebrow pencils and hairbows on the floorshift console. Young women think it's a make up tray & sooner or later enough of those items fall inside the shifter to block it's travel. The result is a phone call from a paniced female saying one of two things. My car won't shut off & I can't get the key out or my car won't start - won't do anything. Tell them what happened and why & the console will stay clean - for about two weeks.
