I think your point is well taking. It's hard to point at anyone thing that is driving prices up. Part of it is speculation, how much is anyone's guess. Oil company profits seem on the surface to be enormous, but their return on their investment is not all that great. You are right about government "waste", but what else is new. Any glitch or threat to the crude production drives the world price up. If Washington would get off their lazy behinds and open up the country to drilling, you would see a decline in crude prices, but that's not likely to happen in the near future. Texas usually has some of the lowest fuel prices in the nation, but it still hurts at the pump when these prices take these hugh jumps.
