Got a problem child at work: About 10 year old Yale forklift with gas engine, Mazda FE5. Starts runs great. Run up for about 30 seconds like you were heading out engine starts to sputter, gets alot of clatter, starts missing. Let her idle down for 20 secs or so, smooths right out and runs fine. Will run perfect at low throttle/load forever but rev it up like I said and it does that. checked all the obvious: compression good, gas good, valves adjusted proper, good oil press. Had electronic dist. Acts like a valve is sticking. All springs intact and none feel noticeably weak. Top end is splash/spray lubed to single overhead cam with solid adjusable rockers, so its not a collapsing lifter,(which is just what it sounds like). Tried running it with the valve cover off but the splash is great. Might have to come up with some sort of way to do that, though.

That way we wouldn't buy any tune up parts until we were sure that the engine was in reasonable mechanical condition. Our tests showed a fictional compression reading of 85, 80, 82 and 86 psi. That is well within a
