Second, quit living in the 1950's. Finding someone local who can work on it disappeared when they started putting computers and government-mandated emissions controls on cars. American, Japanese, Yugoslavian, German, Korean... doesn't matter. Once you get past the glaring mechanical issues like ball joints and spark plugs, nobody local can really do more than guess at the problem. Most dealers aren't much better, and they're supposedly equipped and trained to work on them.
Heck, probably 10% of the parts in that Mitsubishi were manufactured here in the USA, and the trucks were assembled in the USA. 90%+ of so-called "American" brands' parts are manufactured overseas, and they're put together in Mexico...
