I would not have a tractor without then. Safty is a big factor but the ones that cover the top of the tire are a lot safer than those that do not (the clamshell type). Years ago my uncle's brother was plowing with an unstyled Allis WC and hit a rock with the tire (do not know if was left or right) but it bounced him off the seat and he was laying over the top of the fender with that wheel spinning under him, was able to get himself back off the fender and stop the tractor. If he would not have had that fender he would have landed on the tire and been pulled under the tire and ground up and dead. A clamshell type would not have saved him. He told me about it years later when I was farming his place. The clamshell are better than none tho but not as good as a over the tire top type like the Older John Deere And A C flat top fenders. Cannot see why anybody would NOT WANT fenders.
