You don't have to reverse the tranny. The rear end housing on Farmalls and many others has enough room so that the ring and pinion gear can be reassembled so that the ring gear is on the opposite side. As I recall, the ring gear is on the right side of the pinion, and can be switched to the left side for reverse operation which will give all former forward gears a backwards direction to the big drive wheels of the tractor. I know this was frequently done on Farmalls, Molines, and Allis's, maybe others as well.
