Your appreciation for your Grandparents is really nice...and you'll never regret it. My Granddad that was my mentor for several years has been gone over 50 years now, but I still think of him often...he taught me an awful lot and I never doubted his wisdom (oh, mebbe a coupla times). He had accomplished so much, know so much and had raised a big family.(10 children grew to adulthood). Now I'm the old man in my immediate family and I just wish sometimes I could leave half the memories of the life of my own like the ones I remember of my Granddad...or my Step-Granddad on the other side of the family.
