The change from "Global Warming" to the slighly more benign "Climate Change" came about when it was realized that scientifically illiterate folks who probably couldnt remember what they had for supper 2 days ago most likely couldnt understand the difference between long range effects(a steady rise in overall temperatures over a few generations)over short term transitional weather phenomenon (a cold week in Feb., or a winter's snow storm). Yes, there will still be snow and cold weather in winter, but snowfalls will actually increase in some corridors(east coast-represent!) as increases in temperatures increase the water-carrying capacity of the air. Hit that with an erratic Jet-Stream and Bingo!- you get snow! As the planet warms, these transitional cold weather conditions will eventually taper off, but there will still be unpredictable variations in weather, at least until the sun goes Nova a few billion years from now. Now, please try and remember your skepticism this early spring when the east coast experiences monsoon-like weather multiplied by the melting snow pack, and all next summer when you all will collectively kvetch about the record heat and drought, and failed crops (much like quite a few of you did LAST summer, ironically, without a word about global warming/climate change...)
Long term : Global Warming, brought about as the climate changes over decades & centuries.
Short term: Climate Change, the incremental shifts everyone can see for themselves in their own backyards on a more easily comprehended time scale of a few years
