By you saying virgin ground, then I assume that it is sod, like maybe pasture? If that is the case you would be well advised to turn it under as soon as the weather permits. We always tried to have our corn in the ground, by the second week of April,( weather permitting)in central Ill.As has already been suggested ,RR corn would be better for sod ground. There will likely be volunteer grass and weeds, from the sod, also you don't want to bring half rotted sod up with a cultivator, when Roundup will do a good job! Good luck, and lets hope for a better(dryier) spring this year!
