Insurance policies are carefully written contracts. Seems one big problem is that many who buy insurance do not carefully READ those contracts.
The more you pay, the less "loopholes." Afterall, insurance companies are in business to make money; NOT out of altruism.
Often having a good agent who can "fudge things" makes a difference.
A friend of mine has a long-established auto-repair business. Two years ago, he did a pretty dumb thing. He raked big piles of leaves 100' near his building. Then, on a windy day, put waste oil on them and lit them on fire. The wind picked up, set his shop on fire and burnt it to the ground. Now, do you feel the insurance company should of paid for that loss? I don't. But, he was friends with the agent and also "mayor" of the town. It got covered and last I heard, blamed on "faulty wiring."
By the way, I see that huge barn that came down near Albay was also owned by a town mayor (or ex-mayor). To be technical, we call "mayors" Town Supervisors around here.
