Man, thanks for the input so far guys. It seems like you guys have some major experience with firearms so I really appreciate the advice. As for the situation I just want to make it clear that I'm talking about defending my family and property in a case of total lawlessness. I know it sounds crazy but I really believe here in SoCal all we need is the big earthquake to hit and all the parolees and halfway house people will use that time to prey on people like my Grandparents and others with property. I've never shot an M-1, and probably should before I make a purchase of course. But as someone who loves the history of this country I think it would be really a timeless piece to have in any home arsenal. Let alone the intimidation factor that comes with a WWII era weapon.
