You have to be careful. You cant shoot someone for trespassing and/or stealing produce. You can only shoot someone IF they Break INTO the house. You cant shoot them while they are on the front porch saying BOO. Now if they are shooting in the windows with a rifle then thats another story.
As far as a good rifle, I love my M-15 Armalite. I have put so many rounds threw it that it feels like an extension of my right arm. .223 caliber. Almost better then S*x.
The M1 Garand would do wonders with that .30-06 cartridge, a nice big hole in the torso would stop any loser breaking in. I dont own one, but would love to get one. My bank account is not unlimited.
I also have a remington 870 12 gage. A good home defense shotgun. But if 5 goons bust the door in I would rather have a 12 gage autoloader, kinda like Chuck Conners only a shotgun instead of a Winchester. (just blast away) I love my Winchester, A great cowboy gun. But not a great home defense gun.
