I got a post card from my insurance company yesterday urging me to watch out for my roofs. I have been pulling snow off to prevent ice dams, but my roofs are all too steep to be able to get onto and the barns are too high to reach with the rake. It got me thinking this morning that many older people probably get an estimate in the thousands to get a roof shoveled so they decide to take the chance and leave it. Maybe insurance companies need to get involved in this and assess threats before insuring and then pay for part of the cost for shoveling a few hundred in these rare high snow years, rather than paying for the loss
