What you're NOT mentioning is that unemployment compensation is listed in this article as an "entitlement," yet people don't normally spend YEARS on unemployment. Benefits DO expire--ask ME: mine expired BEFORE all these extensions went into effect, so I didn't qualify for any extension at all. Given the choices, I'd rather be working than be on unemployment, because I'm not a bum. When I was younger, I worked two, and sometimes THREE, jobs at a time.
So to keep my house, nowadays I'm working a job that pays HALF of what I was making 5 years ago. In fact, I'm making less a week NOW than I was making 25 years ago...primarily because nobody wants to hire you if you're over 55 years old.
