I don't have any experience with your rifle, but the first thing you should do is buy a proper set of gunmaker's screwdrivers. You can buy a cheap set for under 20 bucks that will do the job; most sporting goods stores carry them. These have hollow-ground bits in all the right sizes. A regular screwdriver will ding up your screws and are likely to slip and scratch the brass side plates.
