Years ago, when I had an Olds Diesel car, wife and I once averaged 62.5 mph over a ten hour period (dusk to dawn) on a trip. The Olds only burned 2 gallons per hour, so stopping for fuel didn't hinder us. Cruise set on 70 if I remember right. Last summer (2010), we traveled and we couldn't get the electronic display above 47.5 over a ten hour period. I was disappointed since we have always figured 50 mph when calculating time/distance for trips. We have a GMC Terrain, gets 27 mpg. Of course, the trips in the Olds were 30 years ago, and we didn't have to stop every hour and a half for relief. Every minute you stop is a mile down the road. MikeS.
